The European Geothermal Energy Council (EGEC) defines geothermal energy as the energy stored in form of heat beneath the surface of the earth b>. This definition covers heat stored in rocks, soil and groundwater, whatever its temperature, depth or origin.
To this definition he could add energy that is stored in surface water, either inland or marine.
The Geological and Mining Institute of Spain defines geothermal energy as the abundant renewable energy sources, exploitation viable, technically and economically, avoiding emissions of greenhouse gases and the existence in our subsoil is tested.DCL System
Forecasts of geothermal energy in Spain are good: in the case of the production of electricity and thermal uses, has a great potential to be a competitive source of energy over other renewable energy sources that are already more established in Spain.
Regarding the sites of low and very low temperatures b> (GHP), provides a major growth sector in both real estate and industry, because it is an efficient technology for heating, cooling and water hot with some outstanding energy savings. Crediting this great efficiency, the Environmental Protection Agency of the United States, has classified geothermal heat pumps (GHP) as the most efficient technologies for heating and cooling.
Other considerations suggest that growth in the sector are:
- The entry into force in March 2006 of the Technical Building Code, where the new housing is required are requirements in energy savings.
- Market development has led to the existence of a wide range of heat pumps with a significant range of powers, affordable prices, with high reliability and does not require highly qualified personnel for installation and maintenance.
- The vastness of areas suitable for the installation of such systems.
- Subsidies that already exist in some regions.
